August is here and that always makes me think about back to school. My kids are still young enough to be living at home and rushing through the door each day a little after three p.m. in a whirl of dirty shoes, sticky lunch boxes and endless pieces of paper. I don’t have room for the built-in cubbies you see in magazines so I’m always looking for some smaller, more economical options. Here are a variety of ideas I found online. (PS Even if you don’t have kids at home, think about your entry area, does everything you bring in, mail, keys, coats, and shoes have a spot?)
This first example is a simple and beautiful free-standing cubby type piece of furniture. You could have this built, or build it yourself, and then seal it with a clear-coat or stain it to your taste.
I like this second option because it wouldn’t take an entire day to set up! Just find some baskets and hooks that you like and install them.
Now, if you do have space for a cubby system, this one was created using IKEA bookshelves. Very cute and economical!
I’ll leave you with this last photo. I know lots of you love the primitive style of decorating, and this photo leans in that direction. I love the wooden bench, and the way that baskets are used for organization.
With any of these projects please think of us if you need paint or stain! We have lots of colors to choose from, all of which are extremely durable! Happy organizing! –Jenny
